POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT
The Civil Project Engineer supports the Civil Project Manager and Assistant Project Manager in all technical, administrative, and coordination aspects of the civil scope for utility-scale solar projects. The Civil Project Engineer focuses on documentation, field support, and technical coordination to ensure that design and construction activities meet Moss standards for safety, quality, and performance.
The Civil Project Engineer is responsible for managing project data, ensuring information flow between office and field, and helping identify opportunities for process improvements.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in preparing self-perform estimates and provide takeoff support for the estimating team during preconstruction and bid phases
Create and maintain Safe Work Instructions (SWIs) for key civil construction activities in coordination with project and field leadership
Support review and coordination of civil design drawings, specifications, and submittals
Support daily field reporting and progress tracking for civil activities (grading, drainage, erosion control, and SWPPP compliance support)
Participate in preconstruction meetings, design coordination sessions, budget reviews and subcontractor buyout & check-ins
Assist in verifying quantities and supporting value engineering and design change management
Review and confirm subcontractor invoicing accuracy with field progress
Support safety and quality control documentation
Update project schedules with input from field and subcontractors
Support preparation of closeout documents including as-builts, warranty and turnover materials
Collaborate with field teams to identify and resolve design or constructability issues
Participate in professional development and training to build technical and project management knowledge
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
0–3 years of experience in civil construction or solar EPC environments (internship experience acceptable)
Foundational understanding of civil construction, grading, drainage, and SWPPP
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and construction management software
Strong communication and documentation skills with attention to detail
