Habitat Broward Breaks Ground on Moss Estates at Oakland Park
New 10-home community advances affordable homeownership in Broward County
OAKLAND PARK, Fla. (September 14, 2026) – Habitat for Humanity of Broward held a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday, September 3, for Moss Estates, a new 10-home affordable homeownership community at 1931 NW 27th St. in Oakland Park.
The community is supported by a generous $1 million gift from Bob and Sandra Moss, whose commitment will help expand access to the stability, opportunity and generational impact of homeownership for hardworking Broward families.
“We are grateful to Bob and Sandra, along with all of our sponsors and community partners, for helping 10 Broward families build brighter futures through homeownership,” said Nancy Robin, CEO and executive director of Habitat for Humanity of Broward.
“I literally prayed to be in this lot. My church is down the street, my job is down the street, my son gets somewhere to call home. Having a community here to build with is just overwhelming,” said TaShierra Richardson, future homeowner. “This is somewhere where I can teach my son stability, something I can leave for him. So, that was my biggest thing.”
Bob Moss, Chairman and Founder of Moss Construction, one of the nation’s leading construction firms, has long believed that building strong communities extends beyond construction and includes investing in the people and neighborhoods the company serves.

In addition to the Moss family’s $1 million gift, Publix Super Markets Charities has contributed $300,000 in support of Moss Estates, furthering a longstanding relationship with Habitat Broward and a shared commitment to expanding affordable homeownership opportunities in Broward County.

Other groundbreaking participants included Maria Menendez, Board Chair of Habitat Broward; Brett Atkinson of Moss Construction; Nancy Daly and Lily Pardo, Women Build event Co-Chairs along with other community partners, future homeowners and volunteers.
Moss Estates will also serve as the site of Habitat Broward’s 2026 Hard Rock WomenBuild, taking place Oct. 23-24. The annual initiative mobilizes women and men to raise funds and help build affordable homes for local families, many of them led by women.
